Lily of the Valley

Lily of the valley in morning sunshine

Lily of the valley in morning sun

I found this small bouquet at a farm that I visited to pick asparagus the other day. Sounds dumb, but I didn’t know they had such a lovely scent. I had never seen them in person before. I also got some lilac blossoms in a small bouquet. They are one of my favorites.

I miss you! I haven’t been blogging much recently because I have been busy packing up. It’s time to move, and the hope is that it happens before school starts in September. We have a lot of work ahead of us. I may not be here as frequently, but I think of you often.

This song has been in my head since I got the bouquet. I know it’s a traditional song, but the Laurie Berkner version is what’s playing in my head.

White coral bells upon a silver stalk
Lillies of the valley deck my garden walk
Oh don’t you wish that you could hear them ring?
That will only happen when the fairies sing

  1. Lily of the valley are pretty and do have a lovely scent. Unfortunately they creep into everything. I decided last year they had to go. Despite my efforts, I now have more than I had last year, so I am trying again. They have controlled a garden area for 40+ years but I hope it doesn’t take me that long to get rid of them.

  2. Wow, you go and pick your own asparagus! One of my favorite veggies. Beautiful flower and photo Cynthia! Good luck with the packing and moving πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks! Yes, there’s a small window of time in which to pick your own asparagus, and it’s great! This is my third year doing it and this year was as delicious as ever. Thanks for the good luck, I need it! Things are starting to feel overwhelming and we’ve only just begun the process lol πŸ™‚

  3. Lovely pic Cynthia πŸ™‚ How wonderful to pick your own asparagus πŸ™‚ I have missed your beautiful posts ;-( All the very best with the packing up and the moving, that can be quite stressful at times. x

    1. Thank you so much, Lynne! We’re still pecking and cleaning up. I have several spackling and painting projects going at the moment. Trying to get everything as ready as possible. Soon hopefully I’ll get back to taking pictures and blogging! πŸ™‚

  4. Beautiful. These lilies were my Nana’s favourite flowers. I’m imagining their scent in her home as I read this. Thank you for the memories.

  5. I’ve loved lily of the valley since I was a child, and we have lots in our present garden. It is a wonderful scent, as you say. And what a delightful song. We also have two lilac trees – beautiful spring colours!
Like you, Cynthia, I haven’t been on my blog much recently. I can understand how little time you have if you’re packing up to move house. I hope the move goes smoothly, and your new home is perfect for your needs. πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks, Millie. Gosh, that seems like so long ago. Not much luck on the move. We may sit tight for the winter and try again next spring. School is starting soon.

      1. Spring’s a good time for a house move – all the summer ahead in which to get your new place sorted out. You’re right, autumn will soon be here. πŸ™‚

I'd love to hear your thoughts
