The cucumbers grew much better last year climbing up the fence. In previous years they had been planted in the bed opposite the walkway, with plenty of space to creep along the ground. Things went OK but never any spectacularly good crops. They flourished, however, when given the opportunity to climb that chain-link fence last summer.

Iβm participating in the A to Z Challenge for the month of April. The idea is to post every day, except Sundays, and end up with one post for each letter of the alphabet. Itβs a good challenge to help me to blog every day.
Oh how I wish I had green fingers to grow something that I can eat π
This was at a friend’s house, I’m jealous. I have a balcony garden each year, but cucumbers are not something I can grow up here on the 4th floor. I’m looking forward to my herbs, peppers and tomatoes. Maybe in a couple more weeks I’ll get some plants. Once I’m sure the weather is finally going to stay warm.
Wow, they look massive. I can hardly wait to plant my gardens this spring. But the last 2 weeks have been extremely cold and even snowy.
They grew so well, they were big and there were lots of them. This was at a friend’s house. I usually set up a few containers on my balcony, but I can’t grow these sadly.
What a lovely pic.! I have always wanted a veggie garden, but sadly do not have the space now. π¦
Thanks! I share your disappointment, Lynne. I wish I could have a real garden, but I just have some space for a few containers on my balcony. I can’t grow cucumbers. This photo was taken at a friend’s house.
We share something in common π Containers, it will have to be π x
Yup π I usually get mine started around mother’s day. Tomatoes, peppers and herb seedlings, with some beans and peas and carrots started from seeds. The carrots never really form but I like to hope each year lol. What do you like to grow?
I like to grow the herbs I mainly cook with, it just makes it so much easier and then tomatoes, peppers (haven’t been too successful though), spring onion, brinjal grows well, beans, spinach and sweet potato from the end of a used sweet potato, they take forever to get to a decent size, but it is still nice to know it came from ‘the garden’. I generally go to the nursery and try whatever I can…I have now run out of pots, so that is the next thing and I can get planting again π
I love it climbing up the fence! nice
Thanks! This was a friend’s garden. She had delicious cucumbers all summer long and had never grown so many in one year. All from planting them in a different spot. She finally found a place for them to thrive!
Wow that would be wonderful!
Love this pick for H! Wow, what a nice cucumber Cynthia!
Thanks! Wish I could take credit for growing it! This was a friend’s garden.
Hopefully they share with you π
Yes, I’m hoping they do again this year!
